Conservation and Ecosystem Market Services

The Land Group (TLG) has a combined expertise of nearly 100 years working with land and natural resources. TLG’s core business in land advisory and brokerage easily translates to additional conservation and ecosystem market services for its clients. Expertise of TLG’s team extends beyond simply transactional real estate to a range of consulting attributes.

Why do we provide Conservation Services?

Our mission is rooted in the belief that the long-term success of the Chesapeake Bay’s agricultural economy is reliant on sound land management and conservation.

In 1949, Aldo Leopold wrote a book called the Sand County Almanac, in which he coined the phrase “land ethic”.

He wrote… “All ethics so far evolved rest upon a single premise: that the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts. The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively the land.”

The Land Group shares in this principle and believes the economic future of the Chesapeake is wholly dependent on the sound use of its natural assets in the waters, forests, soils, and wildlife of the Chesapeake.

What do we do?

The primary role of an advisor at The Land Group is to provide technical service, guidance, and consultation for conservation measures taken on their land. This includes navigating a wide range of voluntary, incentive-based programs—such as conservation easements, Farm Bill initiatives, and private non-governmental programs—tailored to meet each landowner’s specific goals.

Collectively, the team at The Land Group has nearly 100 years of combined experience, bringing the diligence, creativity, and expertise needed to guide landowners through complex federal, state, and private conservation opportunities.
