Land Season
It is around 6:30 AM and almost mid-October. I am tapping away this morning listening to many Fall sounds and sensing that familiar feeling of seasonal change. Last year I wrote a Fall Blog, calling it the Most Best Time of Year, by taking a direct quote from my 9-year-old daughter Aurelia. In my opinion, it is the best time of year and my favorite season.
My appreciation grows from the fact that nearly every aspect of land use and outdoor recreation is in full swing. Farmers, hunters, foresters, bikers, hikers, beachgoers, fisherman, golfers, birders, gardeners, runners, walkers, (I can keep going)… each make the most use of the diminishing light and falling temperatures. The fact is this time of year, the land is teeming with life and activity across the landscape, while biological life slows for the pending winter.
Clearly Fall is “Land Season” and after the strange year here on planet Earth, nearly every other active season of outdoor sport or activity has been shortened, changed or cancelled. So without normality to the sports seasons it seems necessary to focus on the positive and “go with what we got”… Land Season needs no rules clearly and the social distancing aspect of being outdoors, makes it one season no government policy can impact.
We are fortunate to live in such a place as the Delmarva and the myriad of outdoor options it offers each of us. Set up your own schedule this Fall for yourself, friends and family, make your own “game times” and enjoy your place. Have a great Land Season!
Be Well!
