As a land advisor, John helps landowners and buyers value, sell and buy land for farming, forestry, conservation, recreation and renewable energy. He also consults with landowners, restoration firms and renewable energy companies to create and implement new uses and best practices for the land. John is knowledgeable in all aspects of land use regulations, the land entitlement process and land conservation programs.

John is dedicated to the proposition that private enterprise and initiative are key to creating a better environment and sustainable economy for all people and communities. With this focus, John works with a wide range of clients including landowners, renewable energy firms and investors to bring about innovative land-based solutions benefiting the landowner and surrounding community.

Prior to his work at The Land Group, John founded Restore Capital whose mission was to enhance the environment, economy and communities within the Chesapeake Bay region through innovative investments. This included funding large land-based environmental projects (up to $40M), including wetland mitigation, green infrastructure and other ecosystem-based projects.

Continuing to be active in the farming and food industries, John has farmed in Sonoma CA and eastern WV growing organic vegetables for farm-to-table markets and restaurants, while also managing timber holdings. He has run farmers’ markets including Dupont Circle Farmers Market, as well as worked at Mom’s Organic Markets in the Baltimore-DC area, managing stores and supporting their environmental initiatives.
