Space and Distance…A Long View
Sunday March 22 – 11:16 AM –
Sunday morning and we are post breakfast in my household. All is calm and well, while a “storm” rages outside around our country and the world collectively. It is a challenge to put the narrative being told in perspective, but it occurs to me that there is much to gain at this time. It is right next to us, and in my case right now it is a yellow lab snoring…
We have faced many global health and social challenges historically. I am humbled by the risk and commitment our health care professionals are taking each day. I offer my prayers and best thoughts for the people and families struck by these events. I will however maintain an optimistic view in that we will all work together to appropriately manage ourselves and look after one another.
Perhaps that is the tragic gift of this time. We must look after one another. Hold your people close and appreciate the space and distance in the moment. It may offer a broader perspective. The space and distance of things right now may not be all bad. It could be critical. Our world is incredibly close today in the myriad of connected ways we communicate and interact. A moment of space and a deep breath of fresh air is much needed. Perspective and distance is not a bad thing.
In conclusion, the thought prompting my words is not just my idyllic mind creating this utopian vision of the world. It is the views I am seeing through that window on my phone. People all over the world are showing themselves with their closest people outside on hikes, walking and enjoying the space and distance we all need. A close friend told me Friday, he was forced to go on a walk with his family of three children the other day. The sentence as it cleared his throat was rich with emotion as he realized what he had said. Space and distance are much needed always. I believe it will help us all have the long view both today and in the future.
I wish you all the best in the coming days and I hope you get outdoors Today to enjoy the Sunshine.
Be Well!
